Work Permits for Foreign Drivers

Following agreement by the Departments of Home Affairs, Labour and Trade and Industry the following interim measure will be followed to facilitate the Corporate Permit applications for currently employed foreign cross border truck drivers.

This entails the conversion of currently employed foreign truck drivers (on visas) to work permits.

Kindly refer to attached PDF file (page 20) for more information re the Corporate permit application process.

BEFORE the actual application is lodged at the Department of Home Affairs recommendations are to be obtained form the Department of Labour and Trade and Industry.

  • the dti information document
  • list of foreign cross border truck drivers names / information
  • copy of the completed BI 1743

  • list of foreign cross border truck drivers names / information
  • copies of the contracts of employment (for each driver as indicated on the list)
  • copy of the completed BI 1743

The application form with the two letters of recommendation to be submitted to the regional office servicing the client - refer to PDF document.

Please note that the Departments are aware of the urgency off the matter and wish to finalize all applications as soon as possible.
